The last thing you want on a humid day in July is for your air conditioning unit to be blowing warm air. Just because the unit is blowing warm air, doesn’t necessarily mean you need a new air conditioning unit. In most cases, there are some common problems that can occur with your unit that you can fix yourself.
ThermostatSometimes the button on the thermostat can get bumped easily to the heat setting. Give the thermostat a quick double check to ensure it’s set correctly. Also, make sure the thermostat is set to “on” instead of “auto”. When the unit is set to “on” the fan on your unit will continue to run, even when not blowing cold air.
Blocked airflowOne of the most common overlooked problem is a dirty air filter. The air filter should be changed at least once a month and with the busy schedules of summer it’s easy to neglect this task. If you have cats or dogs you should change the air filter more frequently as the animal hair will clog up the air filter at a faster rate.
If you haven’t had your annual air conditioning tune-up conducted on your unit, there could be a simple problem of the unit needing to be cleaned. Dirty coils could also be the root the problem as well. It’s not too late to call an HVAC professional to give your air conditioning unit an annual tune-up to solve your warm air problem.
Electrical problemAnother common reason your air conditioning unit is blowing warm air is due to a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse on the electrical circuit providing electricity to your unit. Try re-setting the circuit breaker. If that doesn’t fix the problem and you discover that you have a blown fuse, call a licensed electrician to fix the issue.
