Christmas Activities in Pittsburgh

The family is coming on christmas At last, the most wonderful time of the year is finally here! Among the Christmas shopping and decorating, the holidays are a great opportunity to spend time with family. As much as we love hosting family and friends, it is common to get a little stir crazy with all of the extra guests in your home.

No need to worry, there are a number of holiday events going on right here in Pittsburgh! Plan a day out with the family and enjoy some of these holiday activities.

Live performances – Pittsburgh offers great theatrical performances during the holidays. Take the family or your spouse to one of these great shows. “The Nutcracker” will be performed at the Benedum Center from December 4 to December 27 with prices starting at $28. A musical rendition of “A Christmas Carol” will be performed from December 4 until the 23 at the Byham Theater. Don’t miss out on the great musical performances of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Sunday December 27. This memorable performance will take place at the Consol Energy Center with two shows, one at 3 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m.

Skate with Santa – What is better than sitting on Santa Clause’s lap? Ice skating with him of course! The PPG Place is offering an opportunity to skate with Santa on December 5, 12 and 19 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Skating around the big Christmas tree with Old Saint Nick will put anyone in the holiday spirit!

Holiday Market – Market Square offers a great North Pole like atmosphere that is amazing for the kids. This unique shopping village has vendors selling one of a kind Christmas gifts and is modeled off of the original German Christkindmarket. Santa will also be making appearances and you can receive a complimentary photo with Santa with a donation to the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank. This festive shopping village will be open until December 23, so grab the family and enjoy this holiday experience!

Shop in the Strip – The Strip District is a must to take any out of towners. This historical part of town offers many unique shops and vendors with handmade gifts from Pittsburgh artists. The strip will be bustling during the months of December! Buy some warm fresh bread or stop for breakfast. Your guests will love this part of the city and enjoy buying unique gifts from local artists.
