Summer is slowly coming to an end and for some this might mean saying goodbye to the lazy, hazy days of summer while others have been anxiously anticipating their children going back to school. Whichever category you fall into, there are some annual routine plumbing checks that should be conducted before fall.
Mid to late August is the best time to inspect your plumbing. You will be able to inspect some plumbing on your own, but when it comes to checking on your sewer line, you should hire a licensed plumber for a plumbing inspection.
Sewer lineDuring the summer the trees grow a great deal. Although this is a good thing, it can often be a problem for your sewer line. As trees grow, their roots extend downwards into the ground and can puncture your sewer line.
Towards the end of summer, you should have a camera put down your sewer line to see if the line has been damaged by tree roots. This is best to have done before colder weather when the ground will be hard and more difficult to dig up if a repair needs to be made.
Hose/sprinklerNow is the time to investigate the fittings on your hoses and sprinklers. After a lot of use throughout the summer, the fittings can become worn, loose or even rusted. These should be replaced now before the weather turns colder because old or rusted fittings can make it easier for water to get in throughout the fall and winter and freeze – resulting in a messy and expensive situation.
Laundry room/dishwasherWith the kids home for the summer and more company over for barbeques, your appliances are being used more than other times of the year. Towards the end of summer, inspect your washer, dryer and dishwasher for any issues and make sure they are all working properly.
