Entrepreneuring Youth Visits Gillece Office and Training Facility

Entrepreneuring Youth visited our office as part of an objective to explore real-world entrepreneurial opportunities in the Pittsburgh area. A group of several middle school students from a summer program took a tour of the Gillece Services facility and learned about our day-to-day operations.Starting in the Customer Service Department, the students observed the process of incoming phone calls and other tasks performed by our Customer Service Representatives. Then, they headed to the Operations Department to see our Dispatch Agents in action. Next, the group visited our training rooms where they got a firsthand look at different plumbing, electrical, and HVAC equipment and parts that Gillece Technicians use for training and continuing education purposes. After the last stop at our warehouse, the youth group gathered in the cafeteria for cupcakes and a Q&A session with Tom Gillece, who some of the students recognized as “The Man on the Van.” Mr. Gillece told the students how he got started attending plumbing school at age 16 and the ways he worked his way up to owning a business. He encouraged the students to start out young and to work hard no matter what job they had.Entrepreneuring Youth is a Pittsburgh nonprofit helping middle school and high school students learn about entrepreneurship through real-life business programs. They help students prepare for careers and success through money-earning opportunities and business savvy skills. We were happy to have them at our facility and to show them a taste of what our company is all about.
